He watches her thrown the camera into the water near the dock as she walks away, and he is taken into custody. Deeply disappointed, Nelly walks off the boat with Andrèzy’s camera-which he’d just handed her and in which he’d hidden the jewels and francs-before Ganimard arrests him. Lupin’s chief adversary inspector Ganimard is waiting at the dock and checks all of the passengers, until he gets to Andrèzy, who turns out that have been Lupin all along. A large number of jewels and tens of thousands of francs have gone missing. They eliminate all of the possibilities, especially when a daring burglary happens while none of the suspects could have done it. The investigation is led by Bernard d’Andrèzy and Miss Nelly, between whom romantic sparks flare. The remaining few days of the voyage are tense, with passengers interrogating all passengers who might match the description. A telegram arrives announcing that Arsène Lupin is on board, but disguised, with blond hair and a last name starting with R…the telegram cuts the rest off. He is hiding in plain sight as a passenger. This story finds Lupin on a transatlantic voyage to New York City. We each felt similarly on this one, with one of us not even being able to finish. This was a Traveling Sister Read with Brenda, Diane and Holly. The author, Jennifer Ashley, did a fantastic job creating the Victorian atmosphere and characters. I really liked the cook’s character and enjoyed her dealings with the house staff and family, but I lost interest in the crime solving side of the book which was the main storyline. How could a head cook of such a household have time to run around town on a daily basis investigating a crime? It just didn’t make sense to me. The novel revolves around a cook of a high power household investigating a murder. Unfortunately, my connection was short lived, as the plausibility of the story became highly unrealistic once the crime was committed (about 1/3 of the way in). It had such a “Downton Abbey” feel to it that I couldn’t help but love it. I immediately loved the characters and found myself captivated by the Victorian mansion household and how it was run. I had an instant connection to this novel. This book started off much stronger than it finished. I read nearly straight through this book, and I never wanted to put it down! It was utterly addicting.Īdam Gidwitz is an author to watch – I cannot wait to see what else he comes up with as A Tale Dark and Grimm was just wonderful. This was definitely on the more violent side – I mean, people get their heads chopped off. There was dragons, murderers, sorcerers and more. As readers follow the siblings through a forest brimming with menacing foes, they learn the true story behind (and beyond) the bread crumbs, edible houses, and outwitted witches. It was just so unlike any of the retellings I have heard before and I loved seeing what would happen with the characters next. In this mischievous and utterly original debut, Hansel and Gretel walk out of their own story and into eight other classic Grimminspired tales. I loved the route Adam Gidwitz took with his retelling of Hansel and Grettel. Plus, the narrator interjects and offers hilarious commentary every so often. It’s one complete story but it’s broken up into 8 stories along the way. The Grimm fairy tales are so intriguing and this is one of the best retellings of them I have ever read.Ī Tale Dark and Grimm was written in such a unique style too. A Tale Dark and Grimm by Adam Gidwitz was such a delightful read! It is the story of Hansel and Grettel as you have never seen it before and I just loved reading it. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Hail Strike by Brett ArquetteMarshall then refines it and sells it at exorbitant prices to power his new reactors. This author is known for her dark, dirty, taboo stories and she doesn’t disappoint here. If you are looking for a romantic lovey-dovey story then you’ve certainly picked up the wrong book. This is K Webster’s version of Cinderella. At the stroke of midnight, that choice may be lost for both of us. But love can have deadly consequences when it comes from a Constantine. However, despite his success in his career, he is a failure in his personal relationships. The professor is well-respected for his work as a doctor. Instead, I really enjoyed the film-particularly the fine acting by Victor Sjöström as Professor Borg. If it had been, it would have lost my interest early on. Although the underlying theme of this movie is aging and impending death, the movie is NOT all pessimism. Although I'm not the biggest Ingmar Bergman fan, I have really enjoyed some of his movies-especially the one that are not so pessimistic. |
